Traces: Montana's Frontier Re-Visited
new photographs by Richard S. Buswell
Richard S. Buswell's impeccably printed black and white silver gelatin prints examine the artifacts left behind by Montana's early miners, ranchers, and homesteaders.
Traces is the third exhibition hosted at MMAC of Buswell's work. After its debut at MMAC, it will travel to other venues throughout Montana and beyond. It is accompanied by an exhibition catalogue published by The University of Montana Press, with an essay by Julian Cox, Curator of Photography at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia, who will visit Missoula on September 17 and offer a gallery talk and book signing from 6:30-8:30pm.

Mike Catlin, Butte: The 1970s
This exhibition marks the first public viewing of Catlin's photographs of the mining town, donated to MMAC in 2002.
A native of Missoula, Catlin visited Butte in 1975 and 1976 to document the moods surrounding Butte's storefronts, homes, streets, and people. The resulting images capture the drama of Butte's architecture and people, as well as its haunting uninhabited buildings. The vitality and character of Butte's citizens is evident in Catlin's portraits and street scenes, where images of people congregating on sidewalks convey the lively energy of civic engagement in a town that survives.

MMAC hosted an informational table at the August 30, 2007 UM Fall Student Job Fair. The job fair presents a variety of community and campus-based job and volunteer opportunities for UM students.
MMAC hires student employees and recruits student interns and volunteers to assist with general MMAC operations. Students have helped with Permanent Collection cataloguing efforts, exhibition preparations, research, programs, and publications.
