John Villarino, Rembrandt Collector,

Audiences were treated to two special events April 15 and April 22. On April 15, John Villarino, owner of the Rembrandt collection currently on view, attended Professor Valerie Hedquist's compelling lecture, "The Place of the Beggar in Dutch Society and Art." A construction coordinator for dozens of Hollywood films, Mr. Villarino discussed his collection after Valerie's presentation. The event drew a full house with dozens more turned away at the door.
By popular demand, Professor Hedquist presented her lecture again on April 22 ahead of the 7pm panel discussion with Minkie Medora, Maxine Jacobson, and Aaron Brock entitled, "Hunger and Poverty at Home: Current Reality in Missoula and Montana." The panelists shed light on the growing need for sustainable solutions to contemporary issues of hunger and poverty.

Kathy Rodriguez, M.A. Candidate in Art History and M.F.A Candidate in Painting during her April 21, 2008 presentation on Montana artist Henry Meloy
On Monday, April 21, 2008, Masters candidate and former MMAC intern Kathy Rodriguez presented her research on Montana artist Henry Meloy (1902-1951). An outcome of her 2007 internship with MMAC, Rodriguez' careful study traced the career of Meloy as well as the creation of the MMAC organized traveling exhibition, Henry Meloy: The Portraits. This exhibition, which draws from the vast Henry Meloy Collection and Archive housed at MMAC is currently touring venues throughout Montana.
Kathy graduates this spring with a Masters in Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting and a Masters of Arts in Art History. Her work can be seen in the UM Gallery of Visual Arts (Social Sciences Building) through Friday, May 2.
