Jay Ellis Ransom '34 of The Dalles, Ore., writes: "At 83, I have renewed my University of Washington Graduate School linguistic studies of the Fox Island Aleut of Nikolski and Unalaska, Alaska, that I originally spent five years on between 1936 and 1941. I retired years ago but, unfortunately, for a writer/photographer/field research ethnologist, there is no such thing as retirement...."
Selden, J.D. '38 and Maryalys Marrs Frisbee '37, have retired and plan to split their time between Polson and Sun City, Ariz.
Frank '37 and Thelma Warrington Shaw '37 of Deer Lodge received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the city's annual Chamber of Commerce banquet.



'40s


Rae C. Greene '41 published a book of poetry, Bits and Pieces of the Big Sky. He and his wife, Claudia, live in Sun City, Ariz.
Keith Crandall '48 of New York City was inducted into the Greenwich Village Hall of Fame in September for advocating human services, writing for The Villager and chairing the community board.
Wilbur "Will" Funk '48, M.Ed. '54, of Portland, Ore., sang a vocal recital at Central Lutheran Church in October. This May, he will guest conduct the Helena Symphony performance of Mission Mountains Suite for Orchestra, which he composed in 1959
Joseph Saltsman '48 is retired from the Foreign Service. He and his wife, Marion, live in Geneva, Switzerland.
Sherman Spencer '49 lives in Stockton, Calif. He writes a garden column for the Stockton newspaper and is a music and drama critic in the Bay area.



'50s


Robert Holmstrom '50, J.D. '52, a judge for the 13th Judicial District since 1984, has retired. "I'd like to spend part of this cold winter in the South," he says.
C.E. Crookshanks '52 recently qualified as a Naval Academy Blue and Gold officer while attending the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
Harold Knapp '53 of Polson was recently recognized on the Bison Range for his conservation projects.
Richard Milne '53 retired in July after 44 years in social work. He was a caseworker in Libby, director of the Cascade County Department in Great Falls and spent 28 years with the Denver Department of Social Services. He and his wife, Dorothy, live in Littleton. They have three children and two grandchildren.
Don Orlich '53, Ed.D. '63, co-wrote Teaching Strategies: A Guide to Better Instruction. The Spanish version will be available in Mexico, Spain, Latin and South America. Don lives in Pullman, Wash.
Roger Anderson, M.A. '56, professor emeritus of education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, was named president of the Iowa Retired School Personnel Association at its annual meeting in Marshalltown.
George Weatherton '56 of Fargo, N.D., wrote a collection titled Stalking the Snow with Farrin Ranger.
Bob Gilluly '57 has retired from the Great Falls Tribune after a career of more than 40 years.
John E. "Shaun" Corette III '58, a partner in the firm of Piper and Marbury, lives in Washington, D.C.



'60s


Philip L. Barney M.D.'60 of Missoula was named president of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists at their fall meeting in Philadelphia.
Jack Therrien '60 lives in Columbia Falls, where he owns Jack's United Liquor and Pharmacy Store.
The late Angelo "Boscoe" Condie '61 was posthumously inducted into the Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame. The award is given to State University of New York College at Cortland alumni who competed as athletes in college and later distinguished themselves in their professions and communities.
Clait E. Braun '62 completed his term as president of the Wildlife Society. Clait, who lives in Fort Collins, Colo., plans to leave his position as program manager at the Colorado Division of Wildlife to devote time to scientific writing.
David Dale '62, M.Ed. '69, lives on the west shore of Flathead Lake and teaches Spanish at Ronan High School. He has published several books of poetry.
George M. "Sonny" Gratzer '63, M.F.A. '76, retired Army captain, recently published, General Issue Blues, poetry reflecting his experiences in Vietnam. He lives in Missoula and has four grown children: Kurt, Dana, Mike and Rachel.
Blaine "Butch" Hendricks '63 writes: "Since retiring from the U.S. Army in 1990, I've worked for the Florida Department of Labor as deputy regional administrator in Northeast Florida. I married Jan Somai, an Upsala University graduate. Congrats to the men's and women's athletic teams for their successes. When I was a Grizzly, success seemed to be measured by whether or not your winning percentage was above .500. Having earned ten varsity letters (track-4, basketball-3, and baseball-3) it would have been great to be on a championship team! We had fun, though.
Richard Raymond, M.S. '64, lives in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. After a 27-year teaching career at Northern Idaho College, he still announces the men's basketball games. Richard was named Master Referee at the 1976-80 National Skeet Shooting Association World National Championships, 1984 North Idaho Sportsman of the Year, 1992 Idaho State Softball Hall of Fame inductee, 1993 Northern Idaho College Booster of the Year and 1997 Northern Idaho Officials Association Basketball Hall of Fame. "I certainly attribute the basis of these honors to some of my background in class and lab discipline while at UM. And...I consider myself a Griz!"
Alida Wright Blair '66, M.A. '81, is a speech pathologist in Columbia Falls.
Alvin Woody '67 owns Medical Management Support Services Inc. in Central Point, Ore. He corresponds regularly with Bijan Ghorashi '67 of Atlanta.
Edwin Hall '68, M.A. '72, retired as executive director of the Montana Board of Crime Control. He chairs the Jefferson County Planning Board and the State Capital Employees Credit Union. A partner in Saddle Peak Communications, Ed lives in Clancy.
John R. Horner '68, curator of paleontology at the Museum of the Rockies and adjunct professor of geology and biology at Montana State University, was named 1997-98 Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar. Jack will travel to 13 institutions and meet with students and faculty. He lives in Bozeman.
Charles W. Schelin, M.A. '68, Ph.D. '71, is provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin in Superior.
Phillip R. Van Ness '68 is a shareholder in the law firm of Webber and Thies in Urbana, Ill.
Rick Cebull, J.D. '69, is a federal magistrate in Great Falls.
M.A. "Crockett" Dumas '69, of the Camino Real Ranger District, Carson National Forest in Penasco, N.M., received the Vice President Gore Hammer Award for governmental re-invention at the Bolle Center for People and Forests in April 1997.
Lt. Col. Linda McDonald DuMoulin, M.F.A. '69, is deputy commander of the Mt. Rainier Squadron, which does mountain search and rescue.
Don Pettigrew '69 lives in Shelby and works as a CPA for Shelby Distributors. He and his wife, Eileen, have two children and two grandchildren.



'70s


Charles Briggs '70, M.A. '78, directed the Rocky Mountain Agency on Aging for five years and was appointed by Gov. Marc Racicot to direct the Montana Office of Community Service. Charles and his wife, Christie, live in Helena. They have five children.
Ron Flickinger '70 is a counselor at North Side High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. He writes: "This year the last of three children has flown-I hope we can return to western Montana and bathe in the memories of those great undergraduate times."
Quinton R. Hehn '70, Ed.D. '88, lives in Superior, where he owns a counseling service.
William E. Larsen '70 is an investment executive for Piper Jaffray in Great Falls.
Robert E. Munzenrider '70, of St. Paul, Minn., was appointed vice president of finance and chief financial officer of St. Jude Medical.
Lee Shannon '70, vice president of marketing and health care services at Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance, lives in Helena with his wife and two sons.
Bruce Whitehead '70, M.A. '71, Ed.D. '80, of Missoula was one of four Montana educators to receive the $25,000 National Milkin Family Foundation Educator Award. Bruce is an elementary principal, adjunct professor at UM and president of the Montana Elementary and Middle School Principals Association.
Orville Getz '71 is principal at Victor High School. He and his wife, Carla, live in Missoula. They have four children: Chet, Grant, Kurt and Kari.
Jim Sulgrove '72 was certified as a senior professional in human resources from the Human Resource Certification Institute. Vice president and cashier of the First National Bank of Gillette, Wyo. Jim also chairs the city Board of Adjustments.
Abram "Mac" Stevens '72 a partner with KPMG Peat Marwick in Billings was recently elected to the board of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Michael Stevenson '74, M.F.A. '78, won a speaking part in Dakota Sunrise, a 100-minute movie about an orphan's search for his family. Michael lives in Dickinson, N.D., where he is choir director at Dickinson High School.
Terry J. Lovell '75 and his wife, Shannon Lynn, live in Prescott, Ariz., where Terry is a professor of business at Yavapai College. They have two children, Jared and Terry Jessica.
Sam Roberson '75 is senior vice president of the Texas Association of Realtors in Austin.
Thomas J. Frusciano, M.A. '76, of Princeton, N.J., is archivist at Rutgers University. He recently co-wrote New York University and the City.
Mike Cummings, M.Ed. '77, is human resources manager at AAA Mountain West in Helena.
Marian Booth Green '77 is an account executive with Dean Witter Reynolds in Billings.
Roxane Ledbetter Whalen '77 is now a commander in the U.S. Navy stationed in Charleston, S.C. She has two children, Sean and Megan.
George "Skip" Wittler, M.A. '77, was promoted to professor of biology at Ripon College in Ripon, Wis.
John H. Osorio '79 is an attorney at the Cherry Hill, N.J., office of Marshall, Dennehey, Warner, Coleman and Gogg.
Joe Raible '79 attended the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve of Honduras to design an integrated telecommunications network to protect the reserve and establish small business communications.
Tom Viall '79 is northwest regional manager for AM Services in Billings.
Mardel Mehmke Scott '79 is an accountant with McRae and Associates in Dillon.
Robert Slomski, J.D. '79, lives in Thompson Falls and is Sanders County attorney. He was elected secretary of the Montana County Attorney's Association during their bi-annual meeting in July.



'80s


Karen Seney Adams '80 lives in Eureka and works for Fortine Mercantile. She and her husband, Eyler, have three children: Havehn, Thane and Eryn.
Sally Blevins '81 teaches first grade at Canyon Elementary School in Columbia Falls.
James Bruggers '81 was elected to a three-year term on the board of the Society of Environmental Journalists. James covers environmental topics for the Contra Costa Times in the San Francisco Bay area.
Miles City attorney Gary Day, J.D. '81, M.A. '82, was appointed judge for the 16th Judicial District.
Tim Wells '81 is president of Tabaracci and Wells in Cut Bank. He was recently appointed to the First Interstate Bank/Cut Bank Advisory Board of Directors. Tim and his wife have three children.
Bruce Williamson '81 is president of Duke Energy International in Great Falls.
Kirk Dige '82 is a broker at Big Sky Properties in Bozeman.
James Donovan '82, M.Ed. '86, is principal at Havre High School.
John W. Jacobsen '82 is a partner in Charles Bailly and Co. in Billings.
Dan Vuckovich '82 was named to the board of trustees of the University of Great Falls.
Perry Backus '83, reporter for the Montana Standard in Butte, received Trout Unlimited's highest award for reporting on conservation issues.
Bret "Wild Cat" Bennett '83 writes: "I am gainfully employed at Red Lodge Mountain Resort as an agent in charge of corporate real estate sales. I'm still single after all these years, and happy. I'm looking forward to this fall's Homecoming."
Sam Hubbard '83 is manager of Thrifty White Drug in Glendive and co-owner of Shooters Archery Shop. He and his wife, Kristine, have three daughters: Kendra, Alexa and Samantha.
Debra Waldron '83 was certified as a clinical specialist in geriatric physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialities earlier this year. Debra lives in Seattle.
Jeffrey A. Weldon, J.D. '83, practices law with the firm of Moulton, Bellingham, Longo and Mather in Billings.
Michael Babcock '84 lives in Great Falls and is an editor at the Great Falls Tribune.
Craig Shepherd '84 is a self-employed auditor of local governments in eastern Montana. He and his wife, Wendy, live in Glendive. They have three children: Michael, Tyrene and Tehya.
Doug Decker '85 directs the Tillamook State Forest Interpretive Program in Forest Grove, Ill. His wife, Marie Mahon-Decker '85, is an international student adviser for Portland State Community College. They live in Portland with their daughter, Emma Marie, and their son, Finley Mahon.
Mike Richards '85 owns and manages Thrifty Drug in Anaconda.
Amy Vanica Watt '85 and her husband, Patrick R. Watt, J.D. '89, live in Great Falls. Amy works part-time as an accountant at the MSU College of Technology. Patrick is a shareholder in the law firm of Jardine, Stephenson, Blewett and Weaver. They have three sons: Schuyle, Keenan and Riley.
Glenn J. Barr '86 was recently promoted to major in the United States Army. He, his wife, Janet, and their son, Logan, live in Fort Irwin, Calif. They look forward to a trip to Montana to "see trees and snow."
Alan English '86 lives in Butte, where he is assistant research hydrologist for the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology.
Sherry Lang Finstad '86 works for United Parcel Service. She and her husband, Larry, live in Galloway, Ohio. They have a daughter, Brittany Nicole.
Lisa Boozel Reimer '86 teaches eighth grade in Laurel. She and her husband have a daughter.
Melody Perkins Martinsen '87, editor of the Choteau Acantha, was named 1997 Outstanding Young Montanan by the Montana Jaycees.
Kathleen O'Connor '87, J.D. '90, is assistant vice president for Sterling Savings in Spokane, Wash.
Mike Scherting '87 is sports editor for the Minot Daily News in Minot, N.D.
Michael Johnson '88 is pastor at the Fellowship of Las Colinas Church in Irving, Texas. He and his wife, Karry, have two daughters, Kaitlynn and Annie.
Charles E. Beard, M.B.A. '89, is a partner in KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington, D.C.
Robert Beeman '89, M.Ed. '92, is principal at Culbertson High School. He has three children: Robert, Bill and Kimberly.
Lance Melton '89, J.D. '92, and his wife, Cindy Brooks '89, J.D. '92, live in Helena. Lance is general counsel and director of governmental relations for the Montana School Board Association. Cindy is lead attorney for the State Superfund Program under the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

Darrin Davidson '90 is a commercial loan officer for Mountain West Bank in Helena.
Barbara Keyworth '90, M.A. '92, is a counselor at Ronan High School.
Don Lesmeister '90 is a probation and pre-trial services officer for the U.S. District Court in Billings.
Bill Matthews '90 and Ann Schmidt '94 married in May of 1995. They live in Atlanta, where Bill is national sales manager for Gamakatsu Hooks and Spro Co. Ann stays home with their year-old son, Thomas.
Gregory A. VanHorssen, J.D. '90, lives in Helena and practices law with the firm of Keller, Reynolds, Drake, Johnson and Gillespie.
Don Casey '91 teaches computers to grades kindergarten through 12 in Augusta.
Karen Queen '91 teaches kindergarten in Jordan.
Nattie Powers Traxler '91 writes: "I married Mark Traxler '91 in June 1992. I work for Century 21 Heritage Realty in Helena. Mark is a wildlife biologist with the Montana Department of Transportation. We have two beautiful sons, Tanner Mark, and Austyn Powers. We would love to hear from friends!"

Lisa Dunn Bennett '92 married Jay Bennett in June. She is assistant athletic trainer for San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif.
Dennis Gaub, M.B.A. '92, is distribution manager for the Billings Outpost, a weekly newspaper.
Dan Hugelin '92 lives in Billings and works for Dovetail Designs and Millwork.
Sandra Lotshaw Micken, M.A. '92, Ph.D. '94, lives in Dillon and is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Western Montana Clinic.
Richard Smith '92 lives in New York City, where he works for a brokerage firm.
Steven T. Wade '92, J.D. '96, lives in Helena and practices law with the firm of Browning, Kaleczyc, Berry and Hoven.
Tim Astle '93 and his wife, Angela Hanson Astle '93, M.B.A. '94, live in Anchorage, Alaska. Tim is a parole officer and Angela is an accountant for Deloitte and Touche. They have a daughter, Cheyenne.
Teri Roberts Beyer '93 lives in Havre and teaches math at Alternative High School.
Jeffrey Coop '93, J.D. '97, practices law with the firm of Crowley, Haughey, Hanson, Toole and Deitrich in Billings.
Sen. Mike Foster, M.P.A. '93, is executive director of the Montana Contractors Association in Helena.
Eric Hummel '93, J.D. '96, lives in Helena. He is a law clerk for the Chief Judge J.A. Turnage of the Montana Supreme Court.
Jennifer Krinke '94 teaches middle and high schools in Shelby.
Kathleen Kazura Lamke '93 and her husband, Geoffrey, live in Albuquerque, N.M., where she is a research technologist for hantavirus longitudinal studies at the University of New Mexico. She writes: "I miss Montana! Hoping for snow down my way..."
Julie Gretelman Opitz '93 is director of marketing and communications for the Montana School Boards Association in Helena.
Charles B. Probert '93 graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine in June. He is in the general surgery residency program at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle.
Eathan Guler '94 writes: "I am in a M.Ed. Program at National Louis University in Milwaukee, Wis., doing clinical work at St. John's Northwestern Military Academy-my former alma mater. I work for Marshall and Isley Bank at their data services center. I'm fine and keeping active in Republican politics."
Shauna Hanisch '94 is pursuing a master's degree in public administration with an emphasis on natural resource policy and administration at Boise State University. She says "hi" to her soccer buddies!
Kerri Lee Hiatt '94 teaches grade school Spanish in Belt.
Rollins G. Hickman, M.P.A. '94, is a major in the U.S. Air Force.
Curtis Olds '94 graduated from the New England Conservatory in Boston. He is performing with the Central City Opera in Denver in Madame Butterfly, The Merry Widow and Susannah. He will also debut as Malatesta in Don Pasquale with Opera Omaha.
Holly Diemert Pepprock '94 teaches at Shelby Middle School.
Dona Taylor '94 is the subdistrict ranger at Two Medicine in Glacier National Park.
Elizabeth Maloney Kaleva, J.D. '95, lives in Helena and is staff attorney and director of policy services for the Montana School Boards Association.
Coast Guard Seaman Keri R. Severson '95 graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.
Navy Seaman Dawn M. Augustine '96 completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.
